Description

Dunjax is not a dungeon-crawling / RPG as you might surmise from its name. Instead it is a side-scrolling run and gun game, where you fight your way through hordes of demons and other monsters Contra-style. Your character can jump quite high (although you're somewhere in outer space I think so maybe it's just reduced planetary gravity) and have unlimited ammo. Dunjax (DOS) is a classic dungeon crawler RPG released for the DOS platform. The game is set in a dungeon environment, where players explore different levels, battle monsters, solve puzzles, and seek treasure. It is designed for fans of old-school roguelikes and turn-based RPGs that enjoy a mix of strategy, exploration, and combat. Here's an overview of the game: Dungeon Exploration: The core of Dunjax is exploring the dungeon. Players move through its maze-like corridors and rooms, looking for keys, hidden items, and monsters to battle. Exploration is essential for uncovering secrets and progressing to deeper dungeon levels. Grid-Based Movement: The game employs grid-based movement in which players move from tile to tile. The movement is turn-based, and players need to plan their next moves carefully to avoid getting ambushed by enemies or stepping into traps. Each level of the dungeon is typically a grid layout filled with different challenges, including enemy encounters, locked doors, traps, and hidden treasures. Combat System: Dunjax features turn-based combat, where players and enemies take turns attacking or using abilities. Players can attack enemies with melee weapons, magic spells, or ranged attacks, depending on the character's class and abilities. Combat is strategic, requiring players to decide when to use powerful spells or items and when to conserve resources. Monsters in the dungeon vary in difficulty, and each type has its own behavior, requiring different tactics to defeat. Character Progression: Players can choose from different character classes such as warriors, mages, rogues, or others, each with unique abilities and stats. As players defeat monsters and solve puzzles, their character earns experience points, which are used to level up and improve stats like strength, agility, health, and magic power. The character’s progression includes learning new abilities, gaining better equipment, and improving stats to tackle the tougher challenges of the dungeon. Items and Loot: The dungeon is filled with various items such as weapons, armor, potions, and scrolls. These can help the player survive or give an advantage in combat. Some items can be used to heal, enhance abilities, or unlock paths. Loot is randomly generated and adds an element of excitement as players discover new gear. Magic System: The game includes a magic system that allows players, particularly those with a mage class, to cast spells. Spells can have various effects, such as healing, attacking enemies, or solving puzzles. Managing magic resources (like spell points or mana) becomes critical as players delve deeper into the dungeon. Spells might be essential for overcoming certain monsters or obstacles.
